We all are looking for ways to save money. Whether the economy is up or it’s down, there is always a good time to save money. When it comes to your heating bill you may be looking for ways to cut costs. While this area is no where near like the North Pole, there are still ways t save on heating costs. Some of these include:
- Set Your Thermostat to 68 Degrees – Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to keep your home set to 80 degrees to stay warm. The only thing that will go up is your electric bill. Setting your thermostat to 68 degrees not only keeps your house comfortable but it helps lower the cost of your electric bill.
- Quit Heating Rooms You’re Not Using – So much money is wasted by heating rooms that aren’t being used. In many homes there may be guest bedrooms that aren’t being used for months at a time. By closing off the vents to these rooms you are allowing more air flow to go to your other rooms and you are saving money by not heating excess rooms.
- Properly Insulate Your Home – We can’t speak enough about properly insulating your home. With adequate insulation you are saving money because heat is remaining in your home and colder air is remaining out of your home. Homes with improper insulation use a lot more heat then homes that have been properly insulated.
- Dress Warm but Comfortable Even Indoors – We’re not saying wear a jacket while you’re in the house. However, there is nothing wrong with wearing a jogging suit or relaxing on the couch with a nice throw blanket. Your home won’t be an ice castle but you won’t need to set the heat as high either if you are dressed a little warmer.
- Make Sure Your Sealing Fan is Set Properly – Almost all of the ceiling fans have a switch which changes the direction of the airflow. If you set the switch so that the fan rotates clockwise then the airflow will be directed down. As you know heat rises so the ceiling fan takes that air and pushes it back down.
- Open our Curtains – The sun shines even when it is cold. Utilize the warmth that the sun brings by opening your curtains. The warmth from the sun will not heat up the room plus the added sunlight doesn’t hurt.
- Caulk Those Cracks – Caulk can be your best friend when it comes to your heating bill. Heat can escape through the cracks in window seals and doors. So caulk these cracks to keep heat in. SO much money is going out the window literally through these cracks.
These are just some of the simple yet effective ways that you can save money on your heating bill. Every dollar counts so save money where you can.
